St. Patrick’s Rangers is a registered Non-Governmental Organization working to reduce disaster risks by building the disaster management capacity of nine of the most at-risk communities in Kingston, Jamaica since December 2013. SPR emerged from the groups of Rangers working as volunteers since 2009 under the “Community Risk Reduction through Youth Emergency Action Committees (YEAC)” project, an initiative of St. Patrick’s Foundation in partnership with Catholic Relief Services and United States Agency for International Development/Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance.
St Patrick’s Rangers works with national and local agencies including the Office of Disaster Preparedness (ODPEM), the Parish Disaster Committee, and Community Disaster Management Committees in preparedness and response activities across the communities we serve. SPR was one of the partners in a project to complete Community Disaster Risk Management Plans and Vulnerability Capacity Assessments for six communities. Our goals and objectives are driven by five core strategic directives:
SPR empowers youth ages 16 to 25 years old to make vulnerable communities more disaster resilient by bolstering the knowledge, preparation, mitigation, and emergency actions of the communities in the event of a natural disaster.
